“You Cannot Ruin” French Bread
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 cups hot water
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 1/3 cups oil
- 6 cups flour
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast int he 1/2 cup warm water
- In a seperate large bowl, combine the 2 cups hot water, sugar, salt, oil and 3 cups of flour
- Add the yeast/water mixture to the hot water-flour mixture. Mix well
- Add the remaining 3 cups of flour, mixing well after each addition
- After all the flour is added and mixed in, let sit in the bowl for 10 minutes
- The dough will start to rise a bit. If mixing by nad, stir down with a large spoon. If mixing in a machine, turn machine on for a few seconds until the dough is deflated
- Repeat this 5 times every 10 minutes until you get to 6o minutes
- Divide the dough in half. Roll each half in a rectangle on a floured surface.
- ROll the dough up like a jelly roll (the long way). Place the dough on a greased baking pan with the same side down. Both loaves can fit on one pan.
- Score the bread across the top 3 or 4 times then brush with the beaten egg.
- Let rise for 20-30 minutes
- Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes in the lower part of your oven. Once golden brown, remoce and cool for 5 minutes on the pan.
